Puppies and Started Dogs:We have over 30 years’ experience hunting grouse and woodcock. Chenango Valley Kennels is family owned and operated, and we pride ourselves on breeding only the finest hunting dogs. Our breeding program is based on our hunting experience. Our English Setters and English Pointers are close working, but not at your feet. From puppies, they are high headed and have the ability of pointing from great distances, a must for a successful grouse dog or any other type of bird dog. Exceptional partners for the grouse woods, we breed healthy English Setter puppies with excellent conformation and drive. Our puppies are well socialized and people-friendly, children as well as adults. English Setters not only make excellent companions but great family pets as well. Here at Chenango Valley Kennels we handle our puppies from the moment they are whelped to the time they are sold. Experience has shown that handling newborn puppies puts a certain amount of stress on them, which enables them to better cope with training later in life. Most breeders sell at an early age because it is easier, that is to say more economical with little or no handling involved. We recommend you leave your 7 week old pup here for one month of puppy training. At our facility we will take the extra time and effort to expose our puppies to birds daily. The value of this is that the puppy will learn how to handle game at an early age, providing a solid foundation for more advanced training with you, the owner. The average person buys a seven week old puppy and does little as far as exposing him/her to birds until eight to twelve months of age. By this time the puppy has lost valuable training time.
